A Date Which Will Live in Infamy
Posted:Dec 7, 2014 3:27 am

On December 7, 1941 an event occurred that changed history. This post is not a political commentary, just posted as a remembrance of those brave men and woman that paid the ultimate price that day. Never should their sacrifice be forgotten. Nor should the sacrifices of many other nations before and after this event.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt: Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation, and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our secretary of state a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday the Japanese government also launched as attack against Malaya.
Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam.
Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
Last night Japanese forces attacked Wake Island.
And this morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. . .

Our veterans of this incident are getting older, and soon we may not have any of them with us. Please take some time, remember them, their sacrifices and those that are no longer with us

Well, it is a Sassy Saturday. I am feeling a bit frisky . How are you feeling today? Do you ever have a day when you feel a bit sassy, I think in some areas you use the word cheeky. Dare I say, don't act your age ? Sit around watching cartoons, staying in your jammies or underwear all day. Or anything you consider sassy. Depending on her schedule, I just may "surprise" one of my friends today. What are your Sassy Saturday thoughts or plans?

Here is another topic I was listening to on a Talk Radio earlier this week. The premise was,, They assumed that most people have at least one thing 'selfish" that makes them happy and they may or may not be reluctant to admit. It can be as simple as a song, as complex as a weekend get away, a soak in the tub a special food. So what is your guilty pleasure? That one treat just for you?

One of my favorite days of the year . When you can have a special day for one of your favorite food groups, why not. Especially this time of year, when there is traditionally a lot of baking going on anyways, a few cookies never hurt . Do you have a favorite cookie? Or do you even like cookies? Add in a cup of coffee and I am a happy man. Lets bake some and have fun.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I wore boots almost daily for 30 years. All types, and I finally found this style, they perfect fit , good protection and comfort. I know, probably not the best choice for bed time, but who could deny the added traction? But I actually do not wear them like that. Now that I am retired, I actually do not wear them often, but is nice to know the old friends are still around. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? If you do, how often do you wear boots? For work or casual?

It is a wonderful day in the neighborhood!. This is my favorite part of the day. Generally it is quiet, I can watch the sun as it comes up and usually no rush now that I am retired. And of course time for that first cup of the nectar that some call coffee. Do you like mornings? What is your morning routine? Is coffee, tea or some other beverage part of the wakeup ritual? For me, breakfast is a big meal, it just gets my day going smoothly. How about you?

An idle mind was wandering here and I was thinking about some weird or goofy stuff I have seen over the years. Some shocking, some sexy and some just funny. Do you have any moments that you would consider to fit these criteria. If you were involved, you can always say "I know this person who,,,,". Dig down deep and please share.

Well, it is the weekend after Thanksgiving. The whirlwind of the celebration, preparation is about done. The effects of Black Friday Christmas shopping is waning. Time for me to start to recharge for the week. Are you a hard charger and still carrying on with the holiday campaign ? I would enjoy hearing you strategy for this weekend. I will be laying here on the sofa, look forward to hearing from you
