Its 2 hours ago and I'm standing out in the yard, knee deep in freshly fallen snow pulling a roof rake across the shingles. I'm not sure how necessary it is or if I need to shovel the roof; but I am concerned. My aching muscles demand I take a break. Standing there I notice how beautiful the snow is hanging off the tall pines, the brilliant, full moon making the fresh untracked snow dazzling to my eyes. Orion, the warrior constellation, hangs in the southern sky. As I take all this in, I think what a perfect night it is to pause on the sidewalk beneath the sheltering pine branches and share a warm kiss with a romantic woman.

I recently have been reading about freediving in the book Deep by James Nestor. I haven't found such a fascinating book in a long time. I couldn't put the book down and reread it as many times as I could while I had it checked out.
Free diving is simply taking a deep breath and going down under the water. There are 3 types of freedivers today.
The sport is where you take a deep breath and see how far down you can go on one breath..they can usually hold it for 3 minutes. Divers commonly go down to depths of 200 ft below the ocean in competition. The record is at least 702 feet! Theres hardly any light down there. Thats crazy deep!
They train by just doing sets of timed breath holds and yoga stretches on their upper bodies musculature. I believe I read that a trained male freediver can hold 10 L of air in his lungs vs. 6 liters in an untrained male. For women its around 6 L vs. 4 L for untrained.
How are their lungs not crushed at 702 ft deep and how can they hold their breath for so long besides enhanced flexibility? The answer is called the Mammalian Dive Reflex. It turns out when you submerge in water colder than the air, your blood vessels in your extremities start to constrict shunting blood away from them and into your vital organs strengthening them against the pressure of the sea. Also, your heart rate drops dramatically, even if you're doing a vigorous workout underwater. At extreme depths heart rates of 7-17 bpm have been recorded! It turns out you only have to put your face in water to start the reflex, putting a limb in the water won't do it.
The next group of freedivers are those who dive for food or pearls. Ancient cultures throughout the world dove for culture, spearfished or dove for food, often holding their breaths for 15 minutes. No one knows how its done.
The ama are a 2000 yr old culture of Japanese women who dive regularly for seafood like abalone. They regularly dive down to 100 fr for seafood to sell..In fact, up until the 70's, Japanese women always dove wearing only a loincloth! That really blew me away considering how buttoned up Japanese culture is. In olden times, the ama even had a special status and rights beyond that of non-ama women as they provided the ruling class with one of their favorite foods: abalone. There is a culture of women in Korea that free dive for seafood as well.
The final group is private researchers who have their own non profits. They dive down to study whales, sharks and dolphins. Often times they swim right along side them!
I'd love to be able to swim along side a shark and not have it bite me! Sperm whales, which dive down to 10,000 ft on one breath, get as large as a school bus. It helps to be able to dive down to 40 ft to get out of the way when a whale decides to give you a playful slap with its enormous fin!

Yesterday I was standing on an old railroad bridge that is now a bike trail. I heard them before I saw them. Eventually, 2 chickadees came in sight. Their black heads never seem to stop moving. They flitted from one branch to another until they came within 3 feet of me. I felt like I could reach out my arm and they would have landed on it. They sure seemed to want to offer me their companionship for a brief moment. A sure sign spring is just around the corner

After seeing gazillionth guy proclaim his cock size in the cybersex room, I made a joke, albeit a bad one, that nobody ever brags about how many minutes of foreplay they do. Cougars! The new hot topic that is all over media just like when Madonna made oral sex mainstream. A lot has been said about cougars, but one question that has not been addressed is why they are so popular.
Since 1982 more women have graduated college than men. That gap is increasing still. Now women tend to date at or above their education level. This means there are less and less "qualified" guys all the time. The number of non-degreed men are increasing all the time as less and less go to college. So the pool of non-degreed women is smaller (and getting smaller) and the pool of non-degreed men is getting larger.
Where else can these men look? At each other or up the age scale towards single and divorced older women. I don't have any real good idea of how non-degreed single and older divorced women feel about dating a guy with out a degree. But just casual relationships may be alright.
This shrinking pool of non-degreed women and increasing pool of non-degreed men may be a viable explanation for the rise in popularity of Cougars. It would be nice to know what the historical birth rates of each gender to see if there really is one boy for one girl at the beginning of life..

We standard members have it rough on here. And when we have it rough, even the gold members (usually women) have a tougher time finding someone they like on here. I wanted to pass down some things I learned to enjoy this site more.

Second, how to watch multiple cams After you've clicked on your first cam, you then can click on as many other cams as you like until the first one comes up. After that no others will come up.
I'm on a laptop always. I don't know how the multiple cams will work for standard members on their phones.

The Dragonfly and Its Prey

This weekend I was up in northern MN. I drove up the north shore of Lake Superior to Grand Portage State Park right on the border. Hiked up to a gorgeous 13 story waterfall . This is the area where there is a historic 9 mile portage from the lake to the smaller lakes of the BWCA.
On the way back to the car, I stopped at a sunny overlok and wham! a dragonfly had landed on the back of my shoulder. It was a huge one with a 2.5 inch wingspan. It had caught some insect in its mandibles. The dragonfly had this fascinating camofluage pattern of blue, grey, black and brown that would be good for hiding on tree bark. As I watched, the prey was rearranged in its mouth and struggled. The dragonfly would move it, take a bite and hold it; then move it again. Eventually the insect was eaten in half and a red circle of its torso could be seen. Meanwhile the drragonflys mandibles kept chewing it and rearranging it with its legs. The insect (a cicada?) was scraping at the eyes down to the very last. I watched it all disappear down the gullet. I had never seen something like this with insects and feel very lucky to have seen it. I wanted to tell the first person I saw but not many would appreciate seeing the food chain so up close, in person.
