You don't bring me flowers anymore......

Part of an old Kenny Rogers song, I think? It being Valentines Day the subject of giving gifts of flowers is on my mind. no slouch in the romance department myself, having often given flowers to those whom held the key to my heart, even if it wasn't Valentines Day. But, as a man I don't ever remember receiving a gift of flowers from anyone.

Not odd I suppose? You never hear of women sending men flowers, well not often anyway. Most times you do, it's because the guy is laid out his own funeral. I wonder why that is? Why is it that a gift of flowers for a guy isn't common practice?

My ex's Grand father..a pretty cool guy use to always say,don't send me flowers for my funeral. If you can't send them to me while alive,I don't want them when gone. Needless to say there were a ton of flowers his funeral. As I said, he was a pretty cool guy, very well liked by his friends and family. As I sat there at his wake, I could hear him saying those words and wondered to myself what he would have thought seeing all those nice arrangements ? Knowing him he'd have laughed and told a joke and admonished them all for sending them.

My favorite flower has always been the Lilac, partly because we had two huge trees of the things in my back yard beneath my bedroom window. The perfume of those flowers used to wake me up on early spring and summer mornings. To this day the sent reminds me of my home and growing up surrounded by my family.

Any who, just some idle thoughts running through my mind this morning, I thought I'd share.
