Damn that Phone

I use my phone for work, so it's always on. And thankfully, for the work part of it, constantly ringing. Lots of phone calls means lots of work.

However these days, I'd say my phone calls have doubled. And it's not because of work. I get so many crazy telemarketing calls these days it's not even funny. I mean, calls for mortgages, calls for healthcare, calls for auto warranty's, calls in Spanish.

Hell my phone is lit up with "Scam Likely" calls constantly. It's getting crazy.

I haven't had a home phone for over 12 years. I got rid of it, because the people that ever called the were telemarketers. Everyone else called my cell phone. Now...everyone calls my cell. Even the telemarketers. There's gotta be something I can do about this, but for the life of me, I can't find it.

It's not like I'm giving out my to people. I never trust that, "we don't sell your ". I either don't give it, or I give them a fake .

I could see if it was like my freshman year in college. My roommate and I thought it would be fun to copy an AC/DC song. So we used window paint and wrote..."Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", with our phone on our dorm window. We got some crazy calls, and some even crazier drop in's. Might even have gotten lucky more than once off it. Well worth our being "published". LOL

But I digress from my bitching.

Is everyone getting this many telemarketing calls on their cells? Is there some way to stop it than any of you know? I'd look it up on the internet, but it'd probably lead me to a site that offered a solution. If I just give them my phone .

I am getting more and more of those calls too, and I send them to voicemail as if I don't know who's calling that's where it goes and nine out of ten time they DON'T leave a message. There is a lot of scammer calls too saying your going to be arrested for something you never heard of before, even IRS scams it's pathetic that people have to do this shit. They need to get jobs and earn their own money instead of trying to scam hard working and seniors out of theirs..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Answer. The federal government's National Do Not Call Registry is a free, easy way to reduce the telemarketing calls you get at home. To register your phone number or to get information about the registry, visit www.donotcall.gov, or call 1-888-382-1222 from the phone number you want to register.

If your phone number is not registered, then get it on there. It works, but only after you've registered. And yes, you DO have to give them your phone number. They gotta know what number to NOT call! lol

Also, if your phone has a blocked list available, you can add the numbers to it and then it won't ring any more if they call from the same number.

That's something I didn't think of...is it different across the pond? I swear it's epidemic levels here.

its a fact today everyone has access to everyone elses phones .telemarketers , and business of all kinds ..here is Canada and I am sure most places the privacy laws are not strict enough its like the 411 look up.I can go on that site and access everyones phone or address..all I have to have is a name and location, or an address or a phone number with a location province or state..comes back and tells me who where and whatever I need to know..I can even spend x amount of dollars and get a full detailed report of whatever I need to know about that person..right down to the size clothes he wears , where he shops, mortgage carrier , bank he uses and whatever I need..sad is it not?

Yeah it's getting out of hand.

I was laughing when you said IRS scammers. My son came running in the house about a year ago..saying the IRS said he owed them money and it had to be paid now. I asked him how he found out and he said they "called him " just now. LOL

I took his phone, called them back and just messed with them for a good 10 minutes. They were threatening, changing their story.. I just kept laughing at them...

Now days, I'm not laughing anymore. I really need to get them to stop. I bet I get 20 fake calls per day. easy.

I'll check out the do not call registry.

as for the blocked calls, they have a new technique out. rolling numbers. Most start with the first 3 digits of your phone number...then the last four just rotate. So you block one, the next one comes through...block that one...

You get the picture.

Thanks for the advice , I'll give it a whirl.

adding the annoying number to a block list if its only one or two specific numbers .I have a list of 8 numbers blocked from the same business in my phone and when they get another number to add to their sales pitch bet u a 10 er they will be calling me again..its annoying to have to block all the time..

Google Play Store for android phone. Call Control Call Blocker. Works fine. 5M agree with me and have tried it. Not 100% but good .. I won't take responsibility on how it works on your phone. Works great on mine. Good luck.

I've seen a couple of these apps, just wondered how they'd work any better than just blocking them on the Android. I'll research it though.

Thanks.

my number is on Do Not Call Registry since 2003...i just checked...and after 15 years, still it's getting worse...mostly robocalls from telemarketer...i do rarely report them as i normally receive a few calls a day, so it will be a time consuming just reporting...but i do block the number...you know what is funny tho??? the same robocalls still come in from new numbers...nowadays, i just ignore, if i don't recognize the number...it's a good thing, i am not using my number for business...but i guess you can't do that, huh? i feel for you...it's annoying...

The Do Not Call list used to work...but really doesn't now.

I have a landline so I don't have to give out my cell number to clients. Unfortunately, I get almost NO client calls to that line, and almost exclusively spam calls. My land line is really through the cable company, and they have a tool that identifies if the it appears to be an automated call, and it rings once and goes to voicemail. LOVE that. Of course they never leave a message, lol.

My cell phone, I do get a few spam calls. There is one company that was calling often, when I tried to ask them to take me off their list, they just kept talking over me and not listening at all (just thinking about it gets me so pissed, lol). And, I know it wasn't a recording because we had a conversation before I politely asked her to remove my name. Those calls come from the area code, and first 3 digits of my cell number.

Let us know if you try Paul's app...I might be interested in that...

Yeah...when i checked out the do not call. it's for blocking legitimate telemarkerters. i doubt the illegal ones are following the rules.

And Yeah..I have to answer all of them. Unless of course it's my good buddy, Scam Likely.

I just checked my phone log. 38 calls today. 16 business, 4 family, the rest are spam calls.

I'm a dinosaur who still has a landline, with the number I've had since 1975. I rarely give anyone my cell phone number, and never as a 1st contact.

So imagine my surprise recently, when my cell phone rang while I was waiting in line for the ferry - and it was my 1st scam call - someone with an Indian accent trying to convince me they were calling from the Canada Revenue Agency.

I hate to think that, if I ever give up my land-line to use only a cell - I will get the same scam calls, like from "Visa/Mastercard Service". Yeah, right - the competitors are going to have 1 service department between them.

What the heck am I saying? You have my sympathies.

The Do Not Call List ceased to work thanks to the politicians in the prior regime!!! My cell and my new land lane are both listed but is has stopped nothing And I live in the boonies where i have no cell reception!!! I have taken to looking up every single call on line and leaving rude comments.
My favorite is" Hi my name is Elizabeth with Resort Rewards Redeption" she calls from every three digit code in Maine!!! You cant cut her off and you cant call her back. She became my #1 BLOCK. I have even gotten phone calls looking for my ex- he's been gone since 1991!!!

Well that right there tells you how widespread it is. I think weee had a good suggestion, but in today's technical world, I'm not sure anything would work. Probably the only answer would be going off the grid entirely.
